North-eastern Azerbaijan
North-eastern part of Azerbaijan is an extensive natural area of the celestial
peaks and seaside resorts. The region is bordered by high mountains of the Great
Caucasus to the west, and in the east, gradually going down, turns to plain
and adjoins to the Caspian Sea. Guba-Khachmaz natural area is considered to
be its central part. There in one hundred and a half kilometers from Baku once
existed the Guba kingdom. Not casually noble beks and high-born noblemen built
the country houses and summer residences in these places. The territory is unique
for many parameters.
One of the most beautiful places of Azerbaijan today attracts many tourists
and guests. The air here is unusually clean and fresh, filled by aromas of
the wood empire, mountain and meadow grasses, svyget smelling fruit: extensive
gardens bring plentiful crops of juicy apples and pears. Climate is excellent,
there is almost the eternal spring in the area of blue springs with pure cold
water. Many lovers of the nature come here to gather the valuable medicinal
plants. Homoeopathists consider the local land to be a real pharmacological
paradise. This region consists of several districts, each of them is rather
tempting as for travelers, so for ethnographers.
Davachi
The relief is Yather varied: the sea-coast is replaced by plains, then by
hills, and further by woods among rocks and mountains. The beautiful Lake Liman
is bordered by a necklace of beautiful mountain lakes. In thickets it is possible
to hunt bears, wolves, wild boars, foxes - all the necessary hunting facilities
hav^been created there for this purpose. You will be guided by skilled conductors-
pathfinders, supplied by weapon and equipment, and a nice .small hunting house
will be at your disposal, fishers usually successfully spend time, the lovers
of hunting for geese, ducks, partridges always come back with rich gain. It
is basically during a cold season. And in summer there comes ease for adherents
of walk tourism. Diving and boat tours in lakes are replaced by excursions to
ancient town's ruins.
Guba
This magnificent apple district is buried in gardens, the rich crops of which
in autumn supply all the countries with juicy sweet fruits. The area has very
rich flora and fauna. Plenty of medicinal plants and grasses grow there. The
region center has kept the originality of the Guba khanate of XVIII century,
when local governors have built fortifications around of city. Frenchman Alexander
Dumas, Norwegian Thor Heyerdahl, Russian Bestuzhev-Marlinskiy and many other
outstanding writers,.travelers, historians during their trips across the Caucasus
necessarily visited Guba, being inspired with spirit of the great transformations
of civilization.
Gussar
It is a mountain district. The highest point of Azerbaijan - Bazardyuzyu Mountain
(4466 m.) is also located there. The area is bordering Dagestan. The region
got its name from the ancient tribe "hissar", living once there. There
are plenty of leaf-bearing trees, hornbeams, beeches, oaks, tugai woods, thickets
of dogrose, hawthorn, sumakh. Wild wood medlar, Cornelian cherry and grapes
possess the unique range of sour-sweet taste and are very useful to health.
There is a real forest drugstore around.
Khachmaz
The most well-known recreation zone of Azerbaijan, Nabran, is located in this
exotic area. Annually the temperate climate and picturesque coast of the Caspian
Sea attract here thousands of bakuvites (inhabitants of Baku) and visitors of
republic. There, on the border of emerald woods and gold beaches the set of
camp-sites, boarding houses, rest houses have been constructed, where all conditions
for active and comfortable rest are provided.
