Al Murabba Fort

AI Murabba fort in a rectangular fortified mub brick structure built in 1948 by Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan I Al Nahyan to house the local administration of Al Ain. In the 1950s the fort become a police c I post and was known locally as Murabba Zayed.

By the late 1960s the fort had been enclosed I by a wall forming a large rectangular open I courtyard with some small administrative buildings within the courtyard and two larger administrative blocks immediately outside the eastern wall on the I site of the existing police station. To the east of I police station was the site of the former central prison of Al Ain.

The historic Muta’tarid falaj, marked by a line of individual thuqab or access shaft, runs broadly east west to the tower.

Murabba fort once formed the local point of the comtnunity, providing a venue for wedding ceremonies, religious festivals such as Ramadan, and formal appointments.
