Vorobyovy Gory Metro Station

Moscow > Vorobyovy Gory Metro Station

Vorobyovy Gory Metro Station

One of the most interesting stations of Moscow Metro was opened as the Leninskiye Gory station in 1959. Its unique nature consists in the fact that it was the world's first station 'suspended' over the river. Unfortunately, the original structure combining the station, the metro bridge and the bridge for vehicle and pedestrians turned out to be unreliable. In 1983, the station was closed and the trains were put on bypass bridges. For nearly 20 years, the metro coaches had been running by without stops, and there were few people who believed in the possibility of reviving the project However, the doubledeck Luzhniki Metro Bridge was restored or, to be exact was practically constructed from scratch, and since 2002, the station has been working under its historical name - Vorobyovy Gory.
