Hungary > Eger

Eger

Several routes lead to Eger: the Ì3 motorway or Route 3 are both fast. The Miskolc - LillafOred - Rdpbshuta - Eger route that leads across the BOkk Hills is beautiful.

The route that can be joined from from Kazincbarcika, Putnok or 6zd and that arrives via Szilvasvarad is full of sights and interest with the picturesque Szalajka Valley, a Forest Museum and the Fatyol Waterfall, and then Bdlapdtfalva with its Romanesque Cistercian Abbey.

As if only really knocking on the neighbour’s door just a stone’s throw from Borsod-Abadj-Zemplen county there are several towns and regions that are worth a visit if you have time during your stay in the area. Eger, the centre of Heves county and the Eger wine region (which almost meets that of the BQkkalja). After a walk in the Baroque town and a visit to the classicist Cathedral why not visit the wine cellars of the Valley of the Beautiful Women! The Tisza Lake begins on the county-border, its waters offer some splendid opportunities for bathers, anglers and water-sport lovers alike. A little further away lies the expanse of the World Heritage Hungarian Steppe, the Hortobbgy, with its scenery and spectacles.

The northern areas of the county border Slovakia, and Kosice (Kassa) is only 30km from the border.

Take at least a long walk in the town-centre and visit the Gothic St. Elisabeth church! Visiting the Domica Cave can complete the discovery of the subterranean world begun in the World Heritage Baradla cave in Aggtelek.
