With its more than 270,000 inhabitants, Wiesbaden is one of Germany’s major cities, teeming with sporting, cultural or social life. Every year, the International May Festival brings internationally renowned ensembles and compagnies to the Hessen State Theatre at Wiesbaden, and the Rheingau Music Festival (RMF) attracts famous orchestras and conductors to the Rheingau and the state capital year by year.

The Kurhaus Wiesbaden accommodates one of those stages which make world-famous musicians feel particularly well. At the same time, the Kurhaus – one of Wiesbaden’s landmarks – is a sought-after location for conferences and symposiums. It is the venue of choice of facilitators who invite to large international conventions with accompanying trade fairs in the nearby Rhein-Main-Hallen Wiesbaden. A representative frame provides also the hunting lodge Jagdschloss Platte, which is only a few minutes’ drive away and has become very popular also for presentations and festive events, thanks to its unconventional architecture and multi-facetted usability.

It is certain that Wiesbaden’s visitors do not have to do without sporting activities! There is a rich variety of sports facilities, as well as numerous hiking, wine and nature trails, which invite the visitor to discover Wiesbaden and the region splendidly on foot.

The Rheingau further captivates with cultural highlights: There are monasteries, castles and palaces steeped in history which quite often invite to enjoy contemporary culinary treats.

Famous are, for example, the “Schlemmer-Wochen”, gourmet feast weeks, which combine exquisite art of cookery with the Rheingau Riesling in utmost perfection. Not less seductive is the large offer of wine taverns called “Straußwirtschaften” which are run at certain times of the year by local winegrowers and stand for comfort and hospitality.

Wiesbaden is many-faceted: It is the state capital of Hessen, a congress and health centre surrounded by green countryside, a place of residence offering very high quality of life, as well as a town of mansions and of wine. Once a spa of the Romans, today’s Wiesbaden has been shaped mainly by two epochs: The rise to the chic “World Destination for Treatment and Cure” in the 19th century, when nobility and wealthy burgesses from all over Europe came together here at summer time to seek healing but also, and in particular, entertainment. That prime period ended with World War I. After decades in crisis the town then rose a new un suspectedly from the year 1945 on, in a different way which also shaped it strongly. Although health care still plays a major role in Wiesbaden today, the town has meanwhile also become an important location for industry and commercial services and, being the capital city of Hessen, a political centre of the Federal Republic of Germany.

Relax and Enjoy

• Morning stroll through the city centre and explore the sights, such as the Kurhaus Convention and Event Centre, Market Church and the Old Town Hall.

• The little streets of the historic city centre invite you to have a little lunch, snack or simply to tarry awhile.
• Then visit the Kaiser-Friedrich-Therme (Spa) of Wies baden. Relaxation, well-being and recuperation await you at the thermal baths with their unusual ambience and applications, such as soft packs, a sand bath, the Rasul bath, massages and cosmetics.
• Allow the evening to end with a visit to the Hessian State Theatre or try your luck in Wiesbaden‘s Casino.

Excursions

• The Wiesbaden Exploration Tour begins at the Kurhaus Wiesbaden and its park.
• The Hessian State Theatre and the Warmer Damm park lie on the way to the Museum of Wiesbaden. Alternating exhibitions and Europe‘s most important Jawlensky Collection are an attraction for art lovers.
• Stroll along the „Rue“ of Wiesbaden, i.e. the Wilhelm strasse, to the Schlossplatz. The Marktkirche (Market Church), Town Hall and the Hessian State Parlia ment invite to explore.
• Wiesbaden‘s ”Schiffchen“ is the restored historic city centre district. There are many opportunities to dine royally for lunch here.
• The Langgasse leads to the Kranzplatz and to the Kochbrunnen. From here, bus line no. 1 takes you to the Nerotal (Nero Valley).
• The trip with the Nerobergbahn (Neroberg Mountain Railway, April-October) brings you up to the Neroberg. The Russian Chapel and the „Monopteros“ are the sights to see on Wiesbaden‘s own „mountain“.
• Enjoy an evening at the Hessian State Theatre, the Casino in the Kurhaus or at various cabaret theatres.
