Terms for Decembrists
Some points of the «Terms» signed by the wives of the Decembrists. «… Willing to share the fate of my husband, a state criminal NN, and live in the place, where he will be kept, I should not look for any intrigues and any extraneous ways to see him, only after Mr. Commandant permission and only
in appointed days, and only twice a week. I should not give him (husband) no things, money, paper, ink, pencils, unbeknownst to Mz. Commandant or the officer on duty. Also, I should not take from him any
things, especially letters, memos and any papers to be sent to those to whom
they are addressed.
(…) 9 shall not write and send to anyone my letters, notes and other papers
under any circumstances without the permission of Mz. Commandant. I oz my husband
receive from anyone letters and stubs … 9 have to show them to Mz. Commandant.

(…) Money of my own, left for the needs of mine … I should register in special
account-book and record all the costs, maintaining this book in one piece; i…) I promise to have a date with my husband only in convict ward in a certain
place, at the appointed time for this, and in the presence of the officer in
charge; do not talk to him nothing extra at ale, speak only in Russian. (…) I should not hire any servants or employees, and use any a man and a woman,
provided for me, for whom I am responsible. They should not have any contact
with my husband.
Finally, while this commitment, I cant go out anywhere from the place of my residence,
as we as to send anywhere servants at out the knowledge Commandant, or, in his absence,
without the knowledge of the senior officer.
