Kulikovo Battlefield
The Kulikovo Field is a historical site 250 km (155 miles) south of Moscow.
In 1380 this field was the place of a great battle between the Russians and
the armies of the Golden Horde. The victory at Kulikovo Battlefield played an
important role in the creation of the Russian national identity and allowed
the people of Russia to gain confidence in their power and ability to fight
off hostile forces. Every year the Kulikovo Battlefield museum-preserve holds
a historic military festival where the events of the battle are reenacted with
no lack of enthusiasm or theatrics.
