Sakhalin

Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk - the administrative center of Sakhalin Region - used to be named Toyohara during Karafuto period. The buildings of Japanese period that keep the “spirit of history" still remain in the town. For an example, the building of Sakhalin Regional Museum (which used to be the Museum of Karafuto Governorship) and the building of Regional Art Museum (former building of Toyohara Takushyoku Bank branch). Nowadays, Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk is an actively developing town with many mini parks. Its architectural image reflects three historical periods - Japanese, Soviet and Russian.
