Bazanov’s educational house

Complex of the Bazanov’s educational house with maternity department, nowadays called Hospital of eye illnesses

The building was constructed in Romance style in 1880-1883 under the project of the architect of baron G.V.Rozen. It was based on means of a gold minerI.I.Bazanov, his daughter-in-law J.I.Bazanova and granddaughter V.P.Kelh who were honorable lifelong trustees of this institution. In shelter, children who were not older than 1 year old were accepted, whose parents couldn't keep them. Later children were transferred for education to reliable people. In 1895 the Bazanov’s educational house was accepted in conducting establishments of Empress Maria. For 25 years the Bazanov’s shelter had accepted 15 389 children. Since 1924 the faculty hospital of eye illnesses of medical university has been settled down in this building. In years of the Great Patriotic War the military evacuation hospital were based here.
