Burkhard Thomann
For Burkhard Thomann Photography incorporates two viewpoints. The internationally
accredited building surveyor uses photography in one aspect to present objective
evidence for complex circumstances, in the other he ventures as photographer
into the world of artistic observations to capture, in very subjective way,
his view of a motive in a snapshot.
Burkhard Thomann was born in 1957 and raised in Frankfurt am Main. Early on
he was fascinated by the urban development measure of this city. The building
sites, secured by the office for historic preservation for difficult archeological
excavations, had the attention of his Camera, as well as the demure skyscrapers
in progress with their unimaginable martial and equipment expenses.
Over 2 million pictures substantiate his technical and photographical knowledge
in the area of pure documentation. Alongside he developed an artistic view for
the aesthetics of his photographic images, which distinguishes him today as
professional Photographer. For Example, he took pictures of scenes in the Theater
and at large events in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Archangelsk, Narjan-Mar, Sotschi
and Kysyl, for which he is very grateful to his partner in Russia – art laboratoria
«BULGAKOVA», the organizer of major creative projects across the country and
worldwide. He was also inspired to capture images during his travels to Russia,
Italy, South America, France, Georgia, Finland,
Tuwa and Bulgaria, which not only testified to the cordiality of the people
who live there, but also to the beauty of the landscape in the singularity of
the moment. It appealed to him to capture the images of the many analogies which
ensued from historical, geographical, social, religious as well as political
contexts.
The idea for the exhibition «Two Worlds, One Moment» was born during the tour
of Tuva which took place in the context of the
archaeological expedition «Kyzyl-Kuragino» of the Russian geographical society
and became one of the most beautiful impressions of his life. The pictures tell
the tale of magic and history of the Celts and Scythians in view of today's
time. Simultaneously the pictures allow a View into the diverse cultures and
nations, which when looked closely have many similarities.
