Horovice castle

Horovice castle

Вaroque by its origin, the Horovice castle was built at the beginning of the 18th century by the Family from Vrbno and Bruntal. The important architectural improvements of the castle were made in the 1740s. For example, the castle park came into being at that time, designed by the plans of Jan Ferdinand Schorr, who was also the author of monumental fresco, situated on the cupola ceiling above the staircase. The main viewing dominant of the castle park is the " Sun Gate ". Both the sculptural decoration and the architectural composition of the gate cannot deny the late-Baroque origin and show the interesting features of the decorative Neo-Mannerism. In the second half of the 19th century, the Hanavsky Family bought the whole estate of Horovice and had the castle adapted to its present Classicist appearance.

The large Court'd' honour with pillars decorated with sculptures from Matyas Bernard Braun workshop is also the part of the castle area. Design of the castle interiors was significantly influenced by the adaptations from the period between the World Wars. That is why their historical character seems to be quite new - it combined the romantic and representative requirements of the family with the requirements of modern living in a comfortable countryseat. Several interiors are open to the public, for example the Hunting parlor, the Dining room and the Library. Also the Slavik's hall with its paintings made by K. Wurbs deserves the attention of the castle visitors. A unique collection of small musical machines is presented in the castle interiors together with the exposition called " The games and toys of little aristocrats".
