Nikolay Gerasimovich Kuznetsov

The village Medvedki of Votlazhma area of Kotlas district of Arkhangelsk region is the home place of Admiral of Navy of the Soviet Union N.G. Kuznetsov.

He was born in the workers family on the village Medvedki in July, 24, 1904.

Since 1919 he joined the Navy of Russia. He took part in the Civil I War in 1926 he graduated from a military - marine college, and in 1932 the Military-Marine Academy.

He was the assistant of the commander of the cruiser "Chervona Ukraine". In 1936-37 he was an attache and chief military-marine counselor in the republic of Spain. Since 1937 he was the vice-chief-commander and chief-commander of the Pacific ocean fleet. In 1939-1945 the chief-commander of Military-marine fleet of the USSR.

In the period of the Great Patriotic war he was a scilful commander of the Navy of the USSR, cooperating with land forces of the Soviet Army.
After the war N.G. Kuznetsov was a military marine minister, and then the first deputy minister of defense. He retired in 1956 he wrote Several books about Soviet Fleet and its role in the defence of Motherland. He knew French, German, Spanish, English and used to translate foreign literature works into Russian.

N.G. Kuznetsov died after the operation in December, 6, 1974. His house was restored and obelisk was put up in September, 23, 1984. At the moment the house-museum is functioning. Here one can see his personal things; documents, books, written by the Admiral, different notes, reminisces of relatives and slling about life and activities of N.G. Kuznetsov.
