Vologda is the same age as Moscow. It was founded in 1147. It’s main
architectural marker is the resplendent Cathedral of St Sofia, built back in
the 16th century. Vologda has many superb pieces of wooden architecture.
The art of carpentry has been a pan of-Vologda's legacy for many centuries,
and about 200 years ago, Vologda became famous for its lace making. The finest
pieces of lace made by Vologda's master lace-makers are famous both in Russia
and abroad.
